Slant is a detrimental flaw in the interarch jaw relationship that reduces oral space closest to the oropharyngeal opening. Slant is created by using anterior stabilization devices to register the interarch relationship for an oral sleep appliance. Slant is a preventable artifact. Posterior stabilization devices, such as X-Slant™, prevent slant (“elevator muscle crunch”), result in parallel arches and increase by comparison posterior mouth space at the oropharyngeal opening.
