There is a neurological effect incorporated into the design of Moses Appliances positioned in the mouth that cannot be simply explained as mandibular advancement. Oral appliances such as The Moses, whose design considers neurophysiologic characteristics have complex beneficial effects on both the musculature of the pharynx and the tongue. In the pharynx Moses Appliances have been demonstrated to affect three dimensional changes resembling inflation of a balloon. The effect of Moses Appliances in the mouth is to stimulate favorable protrusive tongue reflexes to create optimal tongue space and positioning for airway dilation.
